Ultimate Mom's Night OutThis Thursday for Things I Love Thursday the thing I LOVE is Ultimate Mom's Night Out. Last Thursday, my fabulous co-host Kate and I got to spend a few hours with several local ladies for an evening of relaxing, fun, laughter and pampering. We think that mom's deserve a night out just having fun and we all enjoyed several hours at Villas at the Pointe Clubhouse doing just that. The evening started off with registration and all the lovely mama's that brought their nursing babies even got a Teething Bling bangle to model for the evening. There was all sorts of yummy food to munch including tasty The Submarine House sandwiches, delicious chocolate fondue strawberries and krispy treats from The Melting Pot and some cute Lulee's Lollies cakepops.

The Melting PotBut there was so much more than just food that night- we had giveaways GALORE!! Everyone received 20 tickets and could choose what giveaways they wanted to try to win. There was everything from Boogie Wipes to Underdoodles and COSI to Jenna Claire in our giveaways so that there was something for everyone to enter. I know that over half of all the moms there that night won a prize from one of our sponsors.

UMNOThere was also a fun photo booth with pictures taken by Photography by Amy McSwegin, chair massages from At Peace Massage and Wellness, manicures by Beaute Box and Satin Hands treatments by Andrea from Mary Kay. Last but not least, everyone got to take home a swag bag literally stuffed full of swag!! Thanks to all our great giveaway, food and swag sponsors. We are so thankful to have such generous sponsors at Ultimate Mom's Night Out our evening could not have happened without them.

Feed Your Brain

Did you know that one of the most important things that you can do to help your child's education is read to them daily? I'm kinda bummed that the Half Price Bookstore changed their Summer Reading Program, but it's still a fun deal. The Half Price Book Store is helping you get your kids to read this summer. We LOVE their summer reading  "Feed Your Brain" program. Starting June 1 through July 31 kids ages 14 and under can earn a $5 Shopping card if they read at least 15 minutes per day all summer. Here's how it works:

Get a Feed Your Brain Reading Log PDF and set a goal to read each day for at least 15 minutes or more throughout June and July. Grown-ups may read aloud for kids who are still learning.

Join them for the Feed Your Brain kick off on Sunday, June 5 at 2pm for the Biggest Storytime of the Summer at your local Half Price Books.

Add up your minutes and have your parent or guardian initial at the end of each week.

If your child reads 600 minutes or more they can turn in the completed reading log at Half Price Books July 25 – August 7 to receive a $5 Back-to-School Bucks summer reading reward!

Does your kid think they’re a Top Reader this summer? They will award one top reader per age group with a TOP READER prize, a $20 HPB Gift Card!

Don't forget this doesn't start until June 1, 2010. I'm getting so excited for summer. Is it warm outside yet?!

Centerville- Washington Park DistrictJoin Owlexander, the Park District mascot, for their grand opening on Saturday, April 16 from 10am-12pm at Grant Park on Normandy for their first Nature Literature Trail: Owlexander’s Hoot Route. Children ages 3 – 8 and their adult companions can hike along the storybook trail and learn about Owlexander’s animal and bird friends that live in Grant Park. Children can play active games, solve riddles, and more as they read the story. This is a permanent part of Grant Park. This Nature Literature Trail is a wheelchair and stroller accessible, crushed gravel/dirt path through the woods. Kids ages 3-8 with their adult companion can hike along the storybook trail and learn about the animals that live in the park.

This sounds like a GREAT way to get families more involved together on the trail and outdoors for educational fun. And plus how cute is that owl?! I just want to take Owlexander home with me!
