Orchard- Find a local apple orchard and think about what yummy things you do with all your apples. Pack a lunch and make a day of apple picking outdoors. Here's a cute little idea on how to cut an apple and pack it for a lunch.

Nature Walk- The weather has been SO nice lately! Fall is the perfect time to take a nature walk. Just enjoy a stroll around your neighborhood or head to a park. You can also collect pinecones, acorns or even leaves and then make a fun little craft with what you collect when you get home. We like to collect pinecones and make pinecone owls.  Or you can try your hand at a twig trivet.

Movie- It's exciting to be outside watching a movie under the stars. So grab your family, snacks, blankets and head to a drive-in movie! Check out these sites to help you find a Drive-In Theater close to you.

Leaf fun- Leaves on the ground are a quinessential part of fall. Even if you don't have many trees in your yard you can always go outside, take a walk and collect some for some leaf fun. Here are a few suggestions to help get you started.

Play in the leaves-
Rake them into a pile, them JUMP!!!
Create a leafy labyrinth by raking a twisting pathway through the leaves while they are still laying all over the ground.
Hide a wrapped sucker under a leaf pile. The first one to find it keeps it.

Play with the leaves-
Grab some leaves and crayons and create some fun fall leaf rubbing cards.
Collect some leaves and try your hand at a cute leaf crown.
Using a low setting, iron a leaf between two pieces of waxed paper with a sheet of plain paper on top to create a sun catcher.

Kite flying- It's nice and windy in the fall and it's great time to go kite flying. You can try your hands at making a homemade kite, or you can easily snag a cheap on on clearance right now. So go outside, enjoy the nice breezy weather and go fly a kite. Plus when you are all cold from flying your kite, it's the perfect excuse to head back inside for some hot cider or cocoa!

Jack O Lantern- No matter how young or old your kids are you can have a great time together as a family making Jack O Lanterns. Here are some ideas for those of you with younger kids that don't want to leave them out of the pumpkin fun!

Mr. Potato Head Pumpkin- Sure you can go and buy the Mr. Potato Head Pumpkin parts- which are really just Mr. Potato Head parts on steroids, or you can do it like us and use your regular Mr. Potato Head parts. Just get a smaller pumpkin and poke some holes in it where the body parts go. I usually use a screwdriver to make the holes. Then let your child put the parts in and create a Mr. Potato Head Pumpkin.

Paint it Up- You can grab some stencils and let your kids use them to make pumpkin faces. Sponge paints work great with pumpkins and you can cut shapes out of inexpensive sponges. You can also buy glitter paints or glow in the dark paints.

Your Little Sweetie- Candy is a fun way to decorate your pumpkin. Twizzlers make nice hair, and Chiclets gum are wonderful teeth. Gumdrops, Gummy worms, and Starbursts all are great to use. Soft chewy candy works best, you can secure them with long straight pins or toothpicks. Be sure to put the pumpkin somewhere safe if you use pins. 

Cut it Out- Find a few magazines and clip some pictures of eyes, ears, mouths and other fun things.This is a fun inexpensive way to decorate safely.

Indian Corn- Whether  you decide to create a craft using corn or make something that looks like Indian corn you are bound to have some a-maizing fun! (Get it ah-maize-ing, corn, maize, haha!)

Corn Napkin Ring Rolls- Grab an empty toilet paper roll and some fall colored buttons. Glue them in rows to resemble Indian corn. When it's time to use the rings, roll up corn-husk-colored napkins. Insert one in each ring so that the end extends above the cob.

Corn Prints- Cut an ear of corn into 2 1/2-inch sections, with a kitchen knife if necessary. Attach plastic corn cob holders to the ends. Pour a few shades of fall colored paint onto paper plates. Roll the corn in the paint and then across a your "canvas." You can use sheets of paper, or fabric and create cute table decorations. Repeat, criss-crossing patterns and colors until completed.

Hay Rides- There is something about hayrides that makes me remember homecoming fun in High School. You can enjoy a hayride in a big wagon, or at home with your own wagon.

With a group- Be sure to dress for the ride. Have some fun and dress up like farmers complete with plaid shirts and boots. And don't forget to wear something warm and bring your camera. With just the kids- If you have a wagon of your own, grab a hay bale and fill up the wagon and go for a walk/hayride with your kids around the block. Or head to a park for a little more outdoor feel. Have tons of leftover hay? Build a scarecrow with it!
