Kettering Rec CenterCLOSED: This giveaway is now closed. Congrats to our winners.
YOU CAN VIEW OUR LIST OF GIVEAWAY WINNERS HERE.

Well, tomorrow the first day of summer is officially here and this summer is turning out to be a pretty hot one already! If you are looking for a way to cool off be sure to check out the Kettering Recreation Complex's new and improved water park: Adventure Reef. This 3-acre outdoor aquatic facility was built in 1990 but has undergone a serious facelift this past year. You can find more information about all the changes on their site. They also have several pictures of all the other renovations that are happening around the complex on their Facebook page.

Adventure Reef sits where Water Raves the old water-park was, but they have added an interactive splash pad, a waterfall pool, a water playground, a shaded shelter and two giant slides with their own splash pool. Now since Kings Island a little bit of a drive (and pricy), Splash Moraine closed and all the local free sprayground parks only are able to fit a few dozen kids, the Kettering Rec Center's Adventure Reef with its 1,400 capacity is sure to draw big crowds this summer. Plus with admission for Kettering residents, at only $3 for youths (3-17 years) and $3.50 for adults or for non-residents, $6 for youth and $7 for adults, it seems like a very reasonable option. Besides I love that kids under 3 are FREE!!

Since I haven't been to Adventure Reef yet (but I'm hoping to get there soon) I decided to go to my panel of experts A.K.A. my readers, and asked several of you what you thought of it. So straight from the mouths of local moms here's what you all had to say:

Erin H- It's a TON of fun... They have a gated toddler area for 4yrs and under that OLDER children are not even allowed in. For mommies with little ones, this is great! They have a splash park, slides, and a water park type area for older kids (3/4+). If you are a pass holder you can get in at 11:30, set up your spot, and get in the pool a good 15min before others.
It gets super busy around 1:30/2ish, but early evening until close it seems the crowd seems to thin out. During break times you can stay in the water with your kids if they are 3 and under. The only down side is that they don't open until 12 (to non members) and close at 8pm.
Tami R- Yes, it is great!! I love the new gated toddler area and the new spray water section stays on even during break time as well! My 2 1/2 year old loved the smaller slides although it was a little crowded she jumped right in!
Jenny R- The gated toddler area is great...if all of your children are under 6. If not, then it's not much help.
Tricia C- Love the toddler area that is fenced in, and I'm so happy that the gross sand is gone. Plus the new regulations about Sunday being for residents and pass-holders is great!
Heather B- I love it! My kids have the best time there!
Wendi C- We really love it, however I do think it will be a bit less crowded/crazy when the big pool opens up in a week or so. I think that will help to free up some space in the other areas of the park.
Tess A- We've been and we absolutely love it. There's something for kids of all ages. Buying a family pass is definitely the way to go. We look forward to spending many hours there this summer.
Lizzie A- I am wondering if the new one is good for little kids??? I loved how the old one had the little pool and slide for little ones and shallow play areas in the main pool...my little one is 3 and hates water on his head so he won't be going near the big bucket if he sees it spill!!!

So, to kick off the first officially day of summer we have a giveaway! We are giving away 13 sets of passes for our readers. That means 13 families will win 2 free tickets each! How fun is that?! If you have a pass already, maybe you can win it for a friend and they can go with you to Adventure Reef.

Paperreka

CLOSED: This giveaway is now closed. Congrats to our winner Abby.
YOU CAN VIEW OUR LIST OF GIVEAWAY WINNERS HERE.

I know it's early but I'm already thinking about what I'm going to be doing for the boy's birthday. And with birthdays come friends and family, gifts and thank you cards. So when I got my set of custom designed thanks you cards from Paperreka I could not have been more excited! Now, I've bought and received my fair share of cards over the years, but I've never seen any that were as beautiful as these. Her slogan of "you need custom (+) I breathe design (=) together, we are paperific" is so fun too!

Paperreka

I had asked Paperreka to match the card to my website, and I cannot believe how incredibly close they are! Now, if I had been REALLY smart I would have made them match the theme of our birthday party, but I'm not THAT on top of it. First the box had all the card nestled inside a clear plastic case and tied sweetly with a ribbon. Then each card has the look and feel of wood, it's amazing! Her website and all of the products that are on it look just as breathtaking. I love how each product has a catchy spice or herb name too, and with fun names like Juniper Berry, Cocoa Nibs and Fenugreek it's hard to not want everything on the site! The site if full of beautiful products; and wouldn't you know it, their options not only beautiful, but are custom designed for your specific needs. The sophisticated Red Pepper monogrammed cards are classy and classic. So are the Vanilla baby birth announcement cards, which would be sweet for a thank you card from the baby.

ThymeHere is the super fun part! Not only can you admire the skill and creativity at Paperreka, but you also have a chance to win something too. We will select one lucky winner to win a custom created set of items or choose a set of item from their online products

How To Enter:

Main entry: Check out Paperreka and tell us what you like would want to win or what you wish they would make. (Be sure to leave your comment on this post so that it gets counted)

Additional Entries:

Well, here are some more ways you can enter, just be sure to leave a additional comment for each additional entry requirement that you fulfill.

- Follow Deals For Dayton on Facebook, if you already do- tell us in your comment.

Fazoli'sCLOSED: This giveaway is now closed. Congrats to our winners Su and Erin.
YOU CAN VIEW OUR LIST OF GIVEAWAY WINNERS HERE.

Have you been to Fazoli's lately and checked out their new menu? They just expanded their menu and Dayton was one of the first places to get the new menu. Their kids menu now has more options including; pepperoni breadsicks, pizza bowties, pasta and butter sauce and a few other items. For a more "grown-up" palette there are four new 400 calorie options- chicken mushroom alfredo, penne tuscano, pasta margherita, and three cheese baked ravioli. There are several other changes to the menu inluding the addition of coffee and various breadsticks and dippers.

I was flying solo with the boys last Tuesday so we decided to head to Fazoli's for Kid's Night. C had kid's pizza and B happily scarfed down all of his pizza bowtie dinner. They are getting fun little trays for their kids meals, but when we went they didn't have them yet. Every Tuesday starting at 5pm it's Kid's Night and kid's entrees are $1.49 with an adult entree purchase (kids' meals are typically $3.49). On Kid's Night there is usually an employee leading craft projects with the kids, C had fun coloring and making crafts while we waited for our food. Which was nice because it get me a little time to hang with just B, as he banged spoons on the table singing to himself. My boys ate all their dinner, we were all full when we left and I got a little break from cooking. And really when it comes to Fazoli's what kid doesn't love their all you can eat breadsticks?! (Looking for more kid's meal deals? Be sure to check out our list of Kids Eat Free/ Cheap list)

Now, just for my lovely readers we are giving away 2 (two) $25 gift cards so you can enjoy dinner there too.

Main entry: Tell us what you like about Fazoli's or what you would like to try if you haven't been yet. (Be sure to leave your comment on this post so that it gets counted)

Want more chances to win one of those $25 gift cards? Well, here are some more ways you can enter, just be sure to leave a additional comment for each additional entry requirement that you fulfill. Just think, the more effort that you put in the more chances you have of winning.

- Follow Deals For Dayton on Facebook, if you already do- tell us in your comment.

- Subscribe to our weekly email newsletter, if you already do- tell us in your comment.

This contest ends Tuesday, May 10, at midnight EST. We will use Random.org to pick our winner.

Mother's Day GiveawayI am so excited to announce our three Mother's Day Finalist! You can read a little excerpt about each of them from their nomination. Our grand prize winner will receive a $50 gift certificate to Michaels Salon and Spa, a custom bag from Jenna Claire, and a dinner for two at the Melting Pot. Feel free to visit ONE time per day for the nominee of your choice, voting ends on Saturday, May 7 at 11:59pm. Even if you do not know any of the nominees please take a minute and cast your vote for a deserving mom! Our grand prize winner will be announced on May 8.

Sue Bell
She is more than a mother - she is a friend. It is hard to be a friend when you are a mother. Even harder is being a friend when you are a mother-in-law. However, my mother-in-law has accomplished this task. And she does so with grace, caring, and love. She gives great advice about being a woman, living a life of gratitude, and sharing your love with others. She will never make excuses or give up on you.

So why does she deserve this award? But, in all of her giving, she rarely receives. She brushes off offers of others to pay for dinner, take her shopping, or to simply help around the house. She refuses to take one day for herself. She babysits all of her six grandchildren for overnight visits single-handedly. She goes to everyone's soccer, volleyball, swimming, and cheerleading competitions and yells each child or grandchild on to victory. She sends anonymous cards of support when you are going through a rough spot. She prays for you at church every Sunday. She makes your lunch and dinner without asking for a return favor. She lets stress just wash off her back. And, again, she does this with unrelenting love. She is a great mother and unless I publicly tell her and force her to "take a day off", she will go back to her 24 hour daily grind without a complaint in the world.
-Nominated by Tricia Bell

Erin Hammerstrom
This mom is raising four children from age 11 years to 11 months. In 2009 she had to pick up and move away from Africa where the first three were born leaving almost all of her possessions behind. Her husband had trouble making money in this economy so she has had to scrape and scrap everything these children have and get them ready for the cold Ohio winter. Meanwhile she carried and gave birth to the baby, which she courageously did by VBAC so she could carry and care for the others and not have to recover from surgery. She is going through the hardship of trying to get the 11 year old adopted. She schools him while he isn't in school yet. She even had to let him go back to Africa for seven 1/2 months last year and may be facing that again soon. She pours out her life to her family every day. She teaches them, sings with them, disciplines them, trains them in the way they should go.

This very special mother has had to move into a new place to live (that needed a lot of work! And still does!). She manages to cook wonderful meals almost every night in a TINY kitchen, using new ingredients sometimes pulled randomly out of the ground. This woman is really something! She gets her hair done, rarely, on a budget, and does everything on a budget. If you met her on the street you'd think, “wow” “classy” “unbelievably polite” “strong” and this is what she manages under the circumstances. Honestly it will be tough for me to take over watching all the kids for her outings if she wins, but she is 100% worth it. I thank God, the Lord, for her each and every day.
-Nominated by Todd Hammerstrom

Lora Brunner
At the age of 49 in November 2010 she was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Brain Cancer, the most aggressive form of brain cancer. Since then she has had two brain surgeries and undergone both radiation and chemotherapy. I and everyone around her are amazed every single day how positive she is. Even when my sister, my dad, and I are crying she always is the one to make us feel better, and tell us that everything is going to be ok. She has never been one to do anything for herself, and always making sure that she does whatever she can for everyone else, before what she needs. I am thankful that God has blessed me with such a wonderful mom, and when a family goes through something like this you truly learn to cherish the person that means most in your life. I cannot think of anyone more deserving.
-Nominated by Shannon Kumar

Cloud CakesTHIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED: Congrate to our winners: Jerry, Jeanette and Veronica.
YOU CAN VIEW OUR LIST OF GIVEAWAY WINNERS HERE.

I have a sweet little giveaway for you all. Little Debbie has come out with a new snack cake called Cloud Cakes which are golden sponge cakes with a vanilla creme-filling. It's kinda like a Twinkie.. but BETTER. I really liked that it's not as heavy and the creme isn't as thick but is lighter and airy. For those of you that are calorie conscious each cake is only 150 calories. I've actually been thinking about how I can make it more of a dessert instead of just a snack cake, I'm thinking maybe some sort of lemon glaze... mmmm. I would do a strawberry shortcake type treat but I'm allergic to strawberries, I know it's sad. I bet that C would like to have one of these packed in his lunchbox once in a while as a special treat.

You can buy Little Debbie Cloud Cakes nationwide for just $3.09 a box at mass merchandisers, supermarkets, dollar stores, variety stores, and convenience stores.

So, here's our sweet giveaway, 3 lucky readers have a chance to win a Cloud Cake prize pack. Here's all that you need to do:

Just leave us a comment and tell us why you want to win a box of Cloud Cakes.

Want more chances to win? Then here's what you can do to help increase your odds:

- Follow Deals For Dayton on Facebook, and leave us a comment telling us that you do. If you follow us already leave that in your comment.

- Subscribe to our weekly email newsletter and leave us a comment telling us that you do. If you already get our newsletter then leave that in your comment.

Lulee's LolliesCLOSED: This giveaway is now closed. Congrats to our winner Jonelle.
YOU CAN VIEW OUR LIST OF GIVEAWAY WINNERS HERE.

Have you heard about cake pops? They are the latest yummy craze, simple, cute and fun. It seems likes everyone wants in on the fun of cake pops. Even Starbucks is selling them now!

Well, I found a great local company, Lulee's Lollies that makes cake pops. I was so excited when they gave me a dozen for my birthday. They are the perfect dessert for me and my hubby after the kids are in bed, or when I just need a little treat during the day. I FOOLISHLY shared one of my Lollies with my boys the other day and now whenever I take one out they both think they need to "help me" eat it.  Understandably so though because each Lollie is a couple bites of soft, cakey goodness covered in milk or white chocolate coating. The cake inside is dark, moist and sweet while the smooth chocolate coating simply melts in your mouth. Plus they are so cute because they look like little lollipops on a stick and Lulee's Lollies even can create fun custom-made shapes. They individually wrap each Lollie so that they stay fresh and each Lollie can be kept on the counter for one week, in the fridge for 1 month and they can even be frozen for up to 4 months and saved later for a rainy day.

Lulee's Lollies

Lulee's Lollies are perfect party favors for birthday, baby showers, or even for weddings. A dozen Signature lollies are $18 and come in a variety of flavors including: carrot cake, butter pecan, red velvet, peanut butter chocolate, key lime and a few other flavors. Custom lollies are $30 for a dozen and can be made into custom designed shapes. You can check out a few of their Lollies on their site or Facebook page. Here's a tip for all of you.. during March they will be sending 25 people who have "liked" them on Facebook a free 4 Lollie Sample box. All you have to do is be the first 25 to respond when we post about it.

So, here comes the fun part for you foodies out there. Lulee's Lollies is generously offering a dozen of Signature lollies for one of our lucky readers. That's right! You can enjoy the yummy goodness of Lulee's Lollies just like I did.

Living in Dayton is great, we have museums, parks, restaurants and tons of shopping. One downside is that the closest official Apple Store is Cincinnati, which is why I'm so thankful for MacTown. Not only is MacTown an authorized Apple retailer but they have two locations. One location is at the Greene on Holly Drive and one is near the Dayton Mall on Kingsridge Drive. Just like the Apple store MacTown offers custom Mac training. They have two different programs, called Sessions and Free Product Seminars. Here are a few of their Free product seminars:

Mac 101: Safari 5, Preview, Mail, iweb, iSync, Mac App Store

iWork- Pages, Numbers, iPhoto, Garage Band, iMovie, iWeb, iDVD

While there is an annual Sessions membership of $99 per year. This entitles you to 1 hour in classroom sessions and a personalized 30 minute One-on-One training for your specific interests and training need once a week. Here are a few of their 1 hour sessions:

Mac- switching from Windows

Mail & Address Book

iTunes & iPod management

Another thing that I like about MacTown is that they offer all customers a 1% discount for cash payments on in-store purchases of all kinds. I know 1% isn't a ton, but when you are spending a lot of money on a new computer every little bit can really help. Both locations offer a wide variety of Apple products including games, bags, iPad, iPhone and iPod accessories galore, besides the basics like Macs, iPods, iPads and other hardware items. They offer kid sturdy covers, children games, and covers for your iPhone or iPad that your kids will love.
