Mikesell's Chips

There are still a few weeks of summer left and in our family that means there is still time for those last few cookouts with family and friends. I don't know about your family but with ours there are always chips at the table whenever the grill is fired up. We snack on them while we are getting ready for dinner and then we eat them with dinner. My personal favorite is Mikesell's Honey Barbeque- I honestly think I could eat the entire bag by myself. I recently had the opportunity to get a sneak peek taste at Mikesell's two newest flavors, Tuscan Spice and Sweet Chili and Sour Cream. Not only are there new flavor but there is also new packaging and a new logo. It's been several years since they've released a new flavor and I really think that people are going to enjoy the new variety being added to the already stellar Mikesell's family.

Mikesell's Chips Tuscan SpiceOur first flavor was Tuscan Spice, it was a lightly rosemary and herb seasoned chip. I liked how the Tuscan Spice chip reminded me of bruschetta and make me wish I had a good meatball sub to eat with it! To make the chips even better they were reduced fat with 30% less fat than regular chips. Happily I didn't feel as if it affected the flavor or quality of the chip, like I feel reduced fat items typically do. The Sweet Chili and Sour Cream had a completely different flavor. It was a wavy chip with a distinct sour cream flavor and quite a zippy chili kick after bite. I think it would have been delicious with a little guacamole on the side. It was a bit spicier than I expected, but there was also a touch of sweetness.Mikesell's Chips Sweet Chili and Sour Cream

When my hubby and I had our taste test we might have eaten ALL the chips a tad too quickly and then wished we had been sent a larger bag! But ONE lucky reader will win a six-pack of full size 10oz bags of Mikesell's new chips (three bags of Sweet Chili and Sour Cream and three bags of Tuscan Spice). And because Mikesell's is the official snack food of the Cincinnati Zoo, the prize pack will also include 4 tickets to the Cincinnati Zoo.

How To Enter: 3 entries

- Leave a separate comment here telling us which chip you think sounds yummy or your favorite Mikesell's flavor already.

- Like Mikesell's on Facebook. Leave a comment here saying you've done so.

- Mikesell's is more than 100 years old, leave a comment and tell us a favorite Mikesell's memory

This contest ends Friday, August 17, at midnight EST. We will use Random.org to pick our winner.

Dora

CLOSED: This giveaway is now closed. Congrats to our winners.
YOU CAN VIEW OUR LIST OF GIVEAWAY WINNERS HERE.

I know how excited all of you were for our last COSI giveaway so when I received the opportunity to go and learn about their new Dora and Diego: Let's Explore exhibit I decided jump on the opportunity. If nothing else but for my loyal readers sake and not my own. 😉 So this one is for all of you that are like my family and love COSI!

Call me a little crazy, but sometimes I feel like putting B (who is 2) in the stroller at a museum is a two sided problem. See, if we don't bring the stroller... he thinks he needs to run free like he's a wild animal that has been caged up his whole life. BUT if I bring the stroller.. then I feel bad that he can't really experience what is at the museum at stroller-length away. If I let him out of the stroller that I have brought -it's really then me just trying to chase him around while pushing an empty stroller. It's just sort of a loose- loose type of situation for me it seems. So maybe I was crazy when we left that morning but we headed to COSI sans-stroller. Needless to say I'm glad I left it at home because B was so excited to discover all the exciting and enchanting things in this magical world or Dora and Diego that COSI had created.

SpaceshipWe were able to do all sorts of exciting things like helping Tico gather nuts in baskets, joining the Pirate Piggie's crew to divide up the pirate treasure and count coins, piloting a rocket ship to the Purple Planet and much more! B was beside himself with all the great things he could discover. His favorite part was the slide right in the middle of the room. He probably went up and down that thing at least 20 times. Now.. he couldn't do that in a stroller. We MIGHT have caused a bit of a slide traffic jam though when he decided to just sit at the top sucking his thumb blocking everyone else, but he had a great time still.

Pirateship

Well, COSI has generously given us TWO sets of 4 tickets to giveaway.
Includes four (4): General admission voucher to all COSI's permanent exhibits and Extreme Screen voucher

Main entry: Who is your favorite character on Dora or Diego? (Be sure to leave your comment on this post so that it gets counted)

Want more chances to win? Well, here are some more ways you can enter, just be sure to leave a seperate/ new comment for each additional entry.

- Follow Deals For Dayton on Facebook, if you already do just leave an additional comment.

Chuggington

CLOSED: This giveaway is now closed. Congrats to our winner Celia.
YOU CAN VIEW OUR LIST OF GIVEAWAY WINNERS HERE.

It's time for Halloween costumes and fun, but as parents we all need to remember to keep our families safe as we walk around the neighborhood. There are lots of basic safety tips you can share with your kids:

  • Walk on the sidewalk, do not run
  • No pushing or shoving when walking
  • Don't cross the street if a car is coming
  • Look left-right-left before crossing the street.
  • Hold a grown-ups hand while walking, but most importantly while crossing the street

In partnership with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Ludorum, the creators of the hit preschool series Chuggington, recently launched a public service campaign that will promote traffic safety to young families. Entitled Think Safe. Ride Safe. Be Safe!. This traffic safety campaign that delivers important safety lessons to children from preschool to 3rd grade and their parents. With lessons focused on four main areas of traffic safety – pedestrian, school bus, bike and car seat safety – the campaign is designed to engage, educate, and ultimately, save lives.

The program includes:

  •  A Traffic Safety Pledge, which has already been signed by more than 11,000 children. By taking the online pledge, kids can earn their Chuggington Traffic Safety Badges!
  • A dedicated microsite, www.chuggington.com/safety, where kids can go to play safety games, color safety sheets, and parents can download safety tips.
  • An activity book for kids to color and learn traffic safety lessons.
  • Original Public Service Announcements, the first of which will air soon on Disney Junior (sneak peek: you can ride the rails over to Chuggington’s site now to view the PSA online here).
  • Educational materials, new seasonal programs, and a free Chuggington traffic safety app are all part of this comprehensive campaign that will continue through 2012 and beyond.

ChuggingtonWe'd like to encourage our readers to take the pledge with their kids to be safe throughout the holidays and beyond! If you went to the Chuggington event at Toys R Us a few weeks ago you might have already heard about this program, but it's a great idea to take the pledge online with your kids to have them help with Traffic Safety.

Here's the fun part! We are giving away ONE Traffic Safety kit to one of our readers; the kit will include a printed activity book, tip sheets, stickers, a children’s traffic safety vest and a die-cast engine.

Main entry: Take the Pledge for Traffic Safety, then come back and tell us that you did! (Be sure to leave your comment on this post so that it gets counted).

Extra entry: Tell us how you encourage or teach traffic safety to your kids.

That's it! That's all you have to do! Now wasn't that easy?

This contest ends Friday, November 4, at 10pm EST. We will use Random.org to pick our winner.

Disclosure: I was provided with a sample kit to review. But this post and opinions are my own and not paid for or influenced by the item provided.

Sign Language

CLOSED: This giveaway is now closed. Congrats to our winner Christy.
YOU CAN VIEW OUR LIST OF GIVEAWAY WINNERS HERE.

INTERESTED IN USING SIGN LANGUAGE WITH YOUR BABY OR TODDLER? DON’T MISS THIS GIVEAWAY!
An Interview with Amy-Hope Guisleman, from Spring Into Learning

What led you to teach your children more than just those basics?
When our oldest son was about 8 or 9 months old, I discovered Baby Signing Time which led us to teach him signs for pets, family members, toys, etc. When he was about 18 months we started learning even more signs as we began learning the signs taught on the regular Signing Time videos as well.

What are the benefits of signing with infants and toddlers?
Two of the key benefits during these early years are early communication and reduced frustration. Children are able to begin signing between 6 and 14 months of age - much earlier than they typically begin speaking clearly. Toddlers experience a great deal of frustration due to not being understood. They understand a lot of what we say, but we cannot understand them and they find this very frustrating. Children who are taught sign language can clarify what they need or want and so experience much less frustration (and typically fewer tantrums) than their non-signing counterparts.

These are only two common benefits of signing with infants and toddlers – the full range of benefits are hard to put into words and really must be experienced first-hand. It is so much fun to teach your very young child something so perfectly suited to his or her ability level (children develop control of their hands and bodies long before they develop the control of their mouths necessary for clear speech). Your child will love to learn to sign and you will love to see her learning. Time spent reading books together will be more fun and will hold your child’s interest more as you incorporate signs you have learned. Mealtime may be less stressful as your child begins to incorporate signs to express his desires. You will be able to easily communicate with your child across a room or while other children are sleeping without making a lot of noise. I could go on an on about the potential benefits for your interaction with your child, but the best recommendation is to try it first hand and see what you think!

What types of classes does Spring Into Learning offer?
We currently teach two types of classes: Baby Signing Time Play and Sign Classes are 30-45 minute classes that meet once per week and use stories, songs, and activities to introduce and/or reinforce signs to you and your children from birth up until their fourth birthday. (I am flexible on age; please talk with me if you have questions about which class is most appropriate for your child or if you need for an older child to attend with a younger sibling.) Start Out Signing Workshop is a 2-hour workshop designed for the new or expectant parent who has little to no experience signing with children. Parents are introduced to the many benefits of signing with children and taught many of the most useful signs for signing with infants and toddlers. Tips and activities for signing with young children will also be provided.

Our Giveaway:

Spring Into Learning is giving away one free 4-week module of Play and Sign Classes with supporting materials (a $60 value) OR one free Start out Signing Workshop with supporting materials (a $65 value) to one lucky reader. PLUS- They are offering 10% off any September class (either Play and Sign or Parent Workshop) for anyone who registers through their site by August 31st and enters "Deals for Dayton" in the comment box on the registration page.

How To Enter:

Main entry: Check out Spring Into Learning and tell us what class you like would want to win. (Be sure to leave your comment on this post so that it gets counted)

Well, here are some more ways you can enter, just be sure to leave a additional comment for each additional entry requirement that you fulfill.

UPADTE: WE NOW ARE GIVING AWAY 2 SETS OF PASSES!!

Last Wednesday I packed myself, my kids, Once A Month Mom and her kids all into my van and we headed out to COSI to a special preview of their new Dinosaurs exhibit. Suffice it to say, the kids were excited to go. We have passes to Cincinnati Museum and can go to COSI for free, but this was a special chance to see the Dinosaur exhibit up close and personal. Rarr!!

COSIThe Dinosaurs: Explore, Escape, Survive exhibit is over 10,000 square feet of dino-rific fun! There are giant robotic dinosaurs, which kind of scared B since he's only almost 2. There was an amazing educational and hand-on maze, and about a dozen computer simulators that let your kids have a hand at being a dinosaur. The computer simulator was by far the favorite part of the exhibit for my boys. They ran from chair to chair trying to decide which dinosaur they wanted to be, until they found the 4 steering wheel car which all the kids promptly sat down it. Although, it left me wondering how on earth that car drove with 4 drivers, it must be pretty hard to get anywhere when everyone is turning their wheel in a different direction. As we drove home and B was sound asleep (because all Moms know that means it was a good/tiring day) C looks at me and says, "Mama, thanks so much for taking letting me go to that cool special Dino thing" and in my book- that is a GOOD day!

COSI

Do you have a dino fan in your home? I know since PBS started showing Dinosaur Train that my boys seem to care more about dinosaurs than they did before. Now, here is your chance for them to get up close and personal with some dinosaurs! Well, COSI has generously given us a set of 4 tickets to giveaway.
Includes four (4):
General admission voucher to Dinosaurs: Explore. Escape. Survive. exhibit, Waking the T.Rex 3D: The Story of SUE movie, and all COSI's permanent exhibits.

Main entry: Leave us your best dinosaur sound! Roar, growl, grr- let us hear it! (Be sure to leave your comment on this post so that it gets counted)

Want more chances to win? Well, here are some more ways you can enter, just be sure to leave a seperate/ new comment for each additional entry.

- Subscribe to our weekly email newsletter, if you already do just leave that in a comment.
